Estátua de Chris Cornell em Seattle é vandalizada

A estátua de Chris Cornell, que fica em frente ao Museu da Cultura Pop (MoPOP), em Seattle, foi vandalizada. De acordo com o Seattle Times, a monumento de bronze foi visto na última quinta-feira (21) coberto por uma tinta branca.

“Estamos profundamente tristes por este ato ter como alvo a memória de um artista amado em Seattle e ao redor do mundo”, diz comunicado do museu. “Notificamos as autoridades competentes e isolamos a área para que conservadores profissionais possam avaliar os danos e desenvolver um plano que irá restaurar esta importante obra de arte pública sem danificá-la ainda mais”.

A viúva Vicky Cornell utilizou as redes sociais para dizer que ela e os filhos do casal ficaram “de coração partido” ao saberem do ato de vandalismo.

“A estátua não é apenas arte, mas uma homenagem a Chris, seu legado musical incomparável e tudo o que ele representava. Ela representa Chris, que é amado não apenas em Seattle, mas em todo o mundo”, escreveu Vicky na legenda de fotos da estátua.

No entanto, ela declarou estar “muito grata aos fãs que se manifestaram para apoiá-lo e demonstraram um amor imenso. Depois de ouvir que os fãs levaram produtos e tentaram limpar o vandalismo no meio da noite, isso deixou todos nós emocionados”.

A homenagem ao vocalista do Soundgarden foi inaugurada em 07 de outubro de 2018. A estátua em bronze, encomendada por Vicky, foi produzida em tamanho real pelo escultor Nick Marras.

My children and I were heartbroken to learn of the vandalization of Chris’s statue at the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle. The statue is not only art, but a tribute to Chris, his incomparable musical legacy and everything that he stood for. It represents Chris, who is beloved not only in Seattle, but worldwide. In the face of this hate and destruction ( and I want to be clear, this was not in the course of riots or protests. It was a threat that was carried out by a single disturbed individual at 6am in an attempt to besmirch Chris’s legacy). Im so grateful to the fans who stood up to support and showed such immense love- after hearing about it, they made their way there in the middle of the night with supplies and tried to clean it up. When we were told about it today I cried, my kids cried-your gesture was a reminder of how much more good there is out there and how you the fans show up for our beloved Chris. No matter what, ‘you’re never far away… ‘ thank you. The statue will be restored. Hate will not win.
